Informative Signage at the Halifax Shambhala Centre

Portfolio: Signage Re-design for the Halifax Shambhala Centre

My favourite graphic design projects often involve seeing the bigger picture and streamlining information. These projects for the Halifax Shambhala Centre really highlight my ability to take a jumble of information and organize it with consideration for the audience reading it, and the order of importance.

Deliverables

  • poster and social media templates for events
  • new Welcome sign with recurring events and the most important info for newcomers
  • fillable fundraising poster
  • informational signage

Posters and Social Media Templates

The first thing I did for the Centre was create new poster and social media templates, using a different visual language for different types of events - recurring, community, series, etc.

New Welcome Posters

The Halifax Shambhala Centre used to have individual posters for every recurring event, intermixed with posters for special events and event series, making for a very confusing wall of posters.

To streamline the information, I created a new Welcome poster that replaced several others, making the information more digestible. I organized the many events into a flow through different levels of involvement, from "Are you new here?" to "Become a Regular" to "Deepen Your Understanding."

BEFORE

A mishmash of recurring events, one-time events, and event series.

After

Several posters are replaced by one poster for regular events and important information. Single event posters go below.

Fillable Fundraising Signage

I also created some fundraising materials, including a fillable fundraising campaign poster. I came up with the mala idea to use a Buddhisst symbol that already had divisions for increments of funding. They color in the beads as donations come in, and when they get all the way around, they have reached their goal.

Library Instructional Signage

One other piece of informational signage I designed was a poster with the instructions for checking books out of the library.

Do you have information that needs to make sense at a glance? Whether you’re updating signage, refreshing your visual identity, or creating templates that simplify your marketing — I’d love to help. Get in touch and let’s make your message clear.
